Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is a part of The Salvation Army. The Charlotte, North Carolina ARC was established on March 18, 1950 under Major Thomas Gregory. The current men's residence and administration building was dedicated April 23, 1998. The current administrators, Major and Mrs. Thomas Overton provide emotional and spiritual support to the residents of the ARC.
The Charlotte ARC program provides social, emotional and spiritual assistance for men who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. The center provides residential housing with work, group and individual therapy within clean, wholesome surroundings. Physical and spiritual care prepare the beneficiaries to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Frequently those rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life. The work therapy program of the center includes the collection, and repair, of discarded materials and the operation of The Salvation Army "Family Stores" in which restored materials are sold at moderate prices. Such goods include clothing, furniture, small appliances, toys, electronics, and associated household items. The Salvation Army ARC also accepts used cars, boats and trailers and sold at auction. Proceeds from the sale of donated merchandise go directly to supporting the Charlotte ARC Center. In keeping with the Affirmative Action Program of The Salvation Army, services are available without regard to race, religion, or national origin. |
